What is Normal Blood Pressure?

The fact that you're asking, "what is normal blood pressure" is a good sign. Many people don't give blood pressure a second thought. This is pretty typical as high blood pressure, otherwise known, as hypertension, has no detectable symptoms other than a high reading on a blood pressure monitor.

The long-term results however, can be devastating. The chronically elevated pressure on your arterial walls can lead to damage to vital organs such as your kidneys and can also lead to heart disease and stroke. This can result in disability or even death.

Before we discuss what is normal blood pressure, we first need to know how to properly measure blood pressure. You should initially have your blood pressure checked in a doctor's office. However, many doctor's offices rush patients into the exam room where a nurse will immediately take their blood pressure. This can sometimes result in a higher reading than if you had time to sit and relax for about 15 minutes.

You should insist that the doctor take you blood pressure again after you've had a chance to remain seated for at least 15 minutes. Then take the average of the two measurements.

The other factor that may cause your blood pressure to read higher is nervousness from just being in the doctor's office. This is often referred to as "white coat hypertension". If this is suspected ask your doctor about how you can measure your blood pressure yourself while at home.

There are several stages of blood pressure: normal, pre-hypertension, stage 1, and stage 2. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently changed the values of these ranges. This is the first change to the blood pressure ranges since 1997. These changes have eliminated Stage 3 Hypertension.

The changes to the normal blood pressure range deserves particular attention since people who assumed they were in the normal blood pressure range previously, are now finding that they are classified in the pre-hypertension range.

If you find that your blood pressure now falls within the pre-hypertension range don't panic. Medication is not typically prescribed for people in this range. The NIH lowered the thresholds on the blood pressure ranges to make patients and their doctors more aware of the serious consequences of the risks associated with high blood pressure. Lowering your blood pressure a few points during this stage is much more manageable than at the higher stages.

The following chart taken from the "Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure", shows the old and new blood pressure ranges:

*Normal:

Systolic less than 120, used to be less than 130 or diastolic less than 80, used to be less than 85.

*Pre-hypertension:

Blood pressure in this category used to be considered high-normal. Systolic 120-139 or diastolic 80-89.

*Stage 1 hypertension:

Systocli 140-159 or diastolic 90-99.

*Stage 2 hypertension:

systolic 160 and higher or diastolic 100 and higher.

*Stage 3 hypertension category has been eliminated:

Systolic used to be 160-179 and diastolic used to be 100-109

Remember that the blood pressure ranges are general guidelines and that your individual medical history must be taken into consideration when determining appropriate treatment. Health conditions such as kidney disease, angina, diabetes, and pregnancy require special consideration when determining the effects of high blood pressure on your health. In addition, systolic blood pressure becomes more important in people over 50.

10 Tips to Lower Blood Pressure & Reduce Cholesterol - Naturally

1. MANAGE STRESS: Although stress is a normal part of the human experience, it is how we manage stress. Stress and anxiety cause chemicals to be released into your body, raise your blood pressure and cause a reduction of blood flow to your heart. Most people in Stage 1 or 2 of adrenal fatigue typically have elevated blood pressure secondary to increased cortisol and adrenaline. Those with hypertension should always rule out heavy metal toxicity. LDL cholesterol levels may increase from excessive stress too.

Winning Formulas to Relax and Manage Stress (practice some form of stress reduction EVERY day):

- Prioritize - write down your priorities
- Breathe - Full, deep belly breathing. Start with a minimum of two minutes every day and gradually increase to ten minutes daily.
- Yoga
- Meditation
- Massage
- Listen to calm music
- Warm, aromatherapy bath with Epsom salts
- Change how you view situations
- Surround yourself with like-minded people and friends. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Be aware and eliminate unhealthy, stressful social behaviors including arguments, drama, drinking, inactivity, unhealthy eating and over-eating.
o University of Utah psychologist found that women in strained marriages are more likely to feel depressed and suffer high blood pressure, obesity and other signs of "metabolic syndrome," a group of risk factors for heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
- Dissolve unhealthy lose-win relationships and focus on attracting only win-win relationships.

2. ELIMINATE ALL PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS (TRANS FATS): Partially hydrogenated oils are found in thousands of processed foods (breakfast cereals, cookies, chips, fried foods, packaged foods, all CRAP food). Trans fats are proven to cause heart disease. Restaurant food, especially from fast food chains, often serve food loaded with trans fats.

Consequences of a diet high in trans fats include:

- inflammation
- immune function
- testosterone
- Arthritis
- Cancer

- Decrease IQ - learning disabilities. American IQ has dropped 20 points in the past 20 years.
- Diabetes
- Elevated blood pressure
- Free radical production

- Heart Disease
- Interferes with neurological & visual development of fetus
- Liver damage
- Obesity
- Osteoporosis
- Type II diabetes

3. LOSE BODY FAT: This is achieved with the "4 Powers" - Nutrition, Lifestyle, Exercise and Supplements. Excess body fat stresses your joints and organs, including your heart. Decreasing body fat in a healthy, slow, steady manner will improve your health, lower your cholesterol and reduce blood pressure and your risk of diabetes.

4. CONSISTENT EXERCISE: This isn't breaking news. Exercise will help you reduce stress, decrease body fat, increase your metabolism and lower your risk of diabetes. Adequate, consistent exercise will lower your blood pressure and increase the "good" HDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Take a brisk 30 minute walk every day. There is evidence that resistance training results in a more favorable balance in myocardial oxygen supply and demand than aerobic exercise due to the lower heart rate and higher myocardial perfusion pressure. Moderate intensity strength training can control or prevent hypertension. Circulation 116: 572-584, 2007.

5. ELIMINATE HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP: HFCS is the number one source of calories for most Americans and causes obesity. You'll find high-fructose corn syrup in processed crap food, sodas, syrup that goes into your Latte from Starbucks, etc. HFCS is extremely toxic to your liver, increases inflammation, oxidative stress and creates an aggressive insulin response.

6. SUPPLEMENTS FOR HYPERTENSION: Omega-3 fish oils, magnesium, vitamin D, Biotics VasculoSirt, Green Tea Extract, Hawthorne Extract, Digestive enzymes, Probiotics, Folic Acid, Ginger
- Ginger has blood pressure-lowering effects that can protect against the chronic brain injury caused by hypertension. Vascul Pharmacol, 2005 Oct;43(4):234-41
- Supplementation with at least 5000 microg/d folic acid for at least 6 weeks may reduce systolic blood pressure slightly. Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, 2009; 8(1): 15-24.
- Diuretics cause potassium levels to drop increasing the risk of hypokalemia.
- Beta-blockers reduce heart rate and cardiac output potentially reducing exercise performance.
- With calcium channel blockers systolic and diastolic blood pressures are reduced during exercise which may result in light headedness and peripheral edema post-exercise.
- Additional side effects from hypertension drugs include: dizziness, increased risk of breast cancer, memory loss, nausea, asthma-like symptoms, joint pain and impotence in men.

SUPPLEMENTS FOR ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL: Omega-3 fish oils, tocotrienols, pantethine, vitamin D, Biotics VasculoSirt or GlucoBalance, Green Tea Extract

According to a recent study, men with higher vitamin D levels had a 59% reduction in heart attacks. So if vitamin D's only benefit was to reduce coronary heart attack rates by 59%, the net savings (after deducting the cost of the vitamin D) if every American supplemented properly would be around $85 billion each year. Arch Intern Med. 2008 Jun 9; 168(11):1174-80

7. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE increase potassium rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, legumes and fish. Most Americans consume only half the recommended daily intake of potassium and twice the suggested limit for sodium! Potassium can influence BP levels by increasing sodium excretion from the body by stimulating the blood vessels to dilate, opening potassium channels.

FOR ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL increase consumption of plant sterols, sometimes called phytosterols. Plant sterols are the healthy compounds that occur naturally in a variety of plant foods such as fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts. These foods are recognized for their proven role in lowering LDL "bad" cholesterol levels.

FOR BOTH, ELEVATED CHOLESTEROL and HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE include beta-glucan for fiber, a natural occurring soluble fiber found in whole-grain, oat based cereals. Beta-glucan has LDL cholesterol lowering benefits and substantial decreases in blood pressure.

8. INCREASE CONSUMPTION OF SMART FATS and ORGANIC PROTEIN:
FATS - avocado, wild fish, raw (unsalted) organic nuts and seeds, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil
PROTEINS - Grass-fed beef and buffalo, cage-free poultry, wild salmon, fish, eggs, quality whey protein isolate or concentrate.

9. DECREASE ALCOHOL and CAFFEINE CONSUMPTION and INCREASE WATER INTAKE: Alcohol and caffeine cause adrenaline rushes that make blood pressure soar. Alcohol, sugar and processed, refined grains also lead to insulin resistance, hypertension and elevated cholesterol. Alcohol can affect your nerves and how your liver processes fat in the blood. Alcohol and caffeine disrupt blood glucose levels. Not only is alcohol hard on the body, just one drink can cause cellular death in several organs such as the brain.

Take your bodyweight and multiply by .7 - this will give you the number of ounces you should be drinking daily. Add a pinch of Celtic sea salt and lemon to your water.

10. ELIMINATE SUGAR, REFINED CARBOHYDRATES and ALL ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS: Phenylalanine, especially found in Nutra-Sweet and OTC antihistamines, can aggravate high blood pressure.

Sugar is more addictive than cocaine! Sugar has a profound influence on your brain function and your psychological function. When you consume excess amounts of sugar, your body releases excess amounts of insulin, which in turn causes a drop in your blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia. Sugar and refined carbohydrates wreak havoc on blood glucose levels.

In addition, sugar is pro-flammatory and damages skin collagen and promotes again and wrinkles, increases your appetite, depletes your body of B vitamins, causes joint degeneration, ADHD and other behavior disorders, stimulates cholesterol synthesis and weight gain. This is just a small list of sugars' toxic side effects.

Hypertension and elevated cholesterol (as well as diabetes) can be managed WITHOUT pharmaceutical drugs. HOW? Healthy lifestyle habits, stress management, supplements, diet and nutrition, a proper exercise program and fat loss.

PreOp® Patient Education Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Repair

www.PreOp.com Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO Your doctor has recommended that you undergo hand surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. But what exactly is carpal tunnel syndrome? The median nerve, which carries sensation to the thumb and first three fingers, passes through a natural passageway in the wrist. This opening - called the carpal tunnel is formed by arch-shaped wrist bones and a connecting ligament. Various conditions, such as pregnancy, injury, arthritis and changes in the tendons caused by repetitive motion can crowd the already narrow tunnel, putting pressure on the nerve. This added pressure can cause a tingling sensation in the fingers and the thumb and may even lead to numbness, pain and restricted movement. This combination of symptoms is called the carpal tunnel syndrome.

Diastolic High Blood Pressure Taken Seriously

For blood pressure patients who wonder what those numbers mean when getting BPs, here is an explanation. Two figures are observed when taking blood pressures (e.g. 140/90). 140 stands for systolic pressure, 90 is the diastolic pressure. A normal systolic pressure should not exceed 140, and a normal diastolic pressure is no more than 90. An increase in both pressures can mean disaster.

Systolic hypertension is different from diastolic high blood pressure. The former is characterized by sudden augmentation in the pressure of blood when the heart is contracting.

Diastolic high blood pressure on the other hand refers to the blood pressure in between muscle contractions. Doctors and medical experts have stated that diastolic high blood pressure should be taken seriously and that it causes more harm to the body than systolic does. In recent studies, persons below 65 or 70 who are diagnosed with hypertension reported increase incidents of diastolic high blood pressure. This higher rate of diastolic pressure causes adverse effects on the brain, heart and kidney. Patients of diastolic high blood pressure are advised to lower diastolic pressure by maintaining below 90. Systolic pressure is also required to be lowered though a top priority is focused on diastolic pressure.

Causes of diastolic high blood pressure include aging of the heart and its natural effects. When a person grows old his heart muscles get weary and eventually stiffen making it harder for the heart to fill in blood appropriately. Diastolic high blood pressure, if not treated well, may lead to diastolic heart failure. Diagnosis of diastolic high blood pressure may risk the patient of diseases and illnesses like CAD or coronary heart disease, aortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and other pericardial diseases.

Aside from aging, poor lifestyle like smoking and drinking, high cholesterol levels, obesity, high salt consumption, prior cardiac surgery, viral infection, family history and diabetes are also leading contributors to the occurrence of diastolic high blood pressure.

For the last 30 years, studies have also been conducted and challenged the severity of diastolic high blood pressure. In the latest issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, reports have declared that there is a great urge to control systolic pressure than diastolic pressure in hypertension patients. Elaborately, diastolic high blood pressure exposes little risk of getting other cardiovascular disorders.

In special cases of hypertension, systolic hypertension is more common than diastolic high blood pressure among elder patients. Their blood vessels have degraded resulting in the increase in systolic pressure. Advise is given to patients with these condition to lower their systolic pressure and keep it.

High Blood Pressure Symptoms

It is a modern-day disease and can be a silent killer. That is why it's necessary to keep an eye open for high blood pressure symptoms so that the condition can be treated before it gets out of hand. The primary cause of high blood pressure symptoms, or hypertension, is our fast-paced frenetic lives in industrialized environments. So how do you know when you have this condition? The very first sign of high blood pressure could be a dull pain in the head or the neck on waking up in the morning. If the condition worsens, you could experience nosebleeds, dizzy spells, breathing difficulties, frequent urination, fatigue and nervous tension. High blood pressure symptoms also worsen with age. Factors that make us more prone to high blood pressure are our genes, being overweight, lack of exercise, or in some cases kidney problems. Once these factors have loaded the gun against us, factors that can trigger off high blood pressure are smoking, alcohol, stress, and either too much sodium or too little potassium.

So what constitutes 'high' as far as hypertension is concerned? Blood pressure is measured in milligrams of mercury by an instrument called a sphygmomanometer. The first number denotes systolic pressure which is the highest pressure reached by the heart and the second is the diastolic pressure, which is the lowest pressure. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute guidelines state that blood pressure in its normal state should read 120/80 mmHg. When the pressure reads over 120/80 but less than 139/89, it is defined as being 'pre-hypertensive'. People with pre-hypertension should expect to see a few high blood pressure symptoms. Stage 1 high blood pressure is when the readings are between 140/90 and 159/99. Stage 2 is when it goes higher than 160/100, and this is when most people will begin experiencing acute high blood pressure symptoms.

Is there any treatment for high blood pressure or any proven high blood pressure remedy? Garlic has, in a number of trials, proved to be an effective remedy to ease high blood pressure symptoms. However, garlic tends to thin the blood and must be taken only for high blood pressure symptoms after consulting a qualified physician. Fish oil has also been touted as a high blood pressure treatment and studies indicate that it is probably the docohexaenoic acid, or DHA, content that stabilizes blood pressure. Sodium tends to increase high blood pressure in those prone to it so a reduction of salt in the diet usually shows positive results. This should be coupled with potassium-rich foods to see best results because the two minerals balance each other. For example, when potassium content goes down, sodium levels rise, bringing on high blood pressure symptoms. Other supplements for the treatment of high blood pressure [http://www.mitamins.com/disease/High-Blood-Pressure.html?source=article] include folic acid. Smokers who took folic acid for a few weeks saw a significant decrease in blood pressure.

There is also a large body of evidence to suggest high blood pressure can be lowered through exercise and weight loss. The trick, however, is to be moderate and not overdo either the exercise or weight loss in order to reduce high blood pressure. It also pay to be moderate in our diet to make sure high blood pressure is minimized or better still, completely eradicated..

Combating Periodontitis From the Gums Up - Choosing the Right Toothbrush is a Critical Decision

Gum disease is a nasty thing to deal with; there is no doubt about it. Although it tends to start off slowly, many people would consider their Periodontitis to have snuck up on them without much warning at all, but things are usually to the contrary.

Such a condition usually arises from neglect of proper oral care, whether purposeful or otherwise. Selecting the right toothbrush can make a big difference in whether or not you are able to quickly reverse that nasty condition, and doing so is much easier than most people would like to think. It is really just a matter of knowing what you need and what works best for you, as everyone is different.

Soft vs. Medium vs. Hard

Soft toothbrushes seem to be the toothbrush among choice for many people, but that might be one of the reasons why gum disease has begun to affect such a large portion of the population. Soft toothbrushes loosen the plaque, yes; they also tend to smear it around in the mouth without actually removing it, something which can actually contribute to the formation of conditions like gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Hard toothbrushes on the other hand can be a bit too tough for the mouths of many people. While there is a place for them, it may not be your mouth-especially if you have sensitive teeth and gums. They can cause gum bleeding, and when dealing with a condition like gum disease in which there is already the presence of bleeding gums that is not always the best route to go.

Medium toothbrushes are often the best way to go. These types of brushes have allowed for people to have found a rather happy medium when it comes to choosing the toothbrush of their choice. It brushes hard enough to get the gunk out but not hard enough to cause more damage than there already was in the first place. On the other hand, it isn't too soft to get the job done right.

Electric toothbrushes are a viable option as well. When chosen right they can get twice the work done in half the time as far as oral cleaning is concerned. They are a bit pricier than the traditional toothbrushes on the market, though.

Having a great smile and reversing Periodontitis is about making smart choices. Choosing a toothbrush is one of these critical choices to be made. Find the best toothbrush for you and use it as often as you can to get back to a beautiful, vibrant smile in no time.

How Exercise Affects Blood Pressure

Exercise is beneficial to the human body in many different ways and on many different levels. The beautiful part about beneficial exercise is that it does not have to be intense or boring, or even nonproductive. Mowing the lawn is beneficial exercise, and so is scrubbing the kitchen floor. As long as you are exerting energy at a level high enough to increase your heart rate and your breathing rate, the exercise is beneficial. Walking, swimming, and biking are all beneficial exercises that can be fun, too.

If you have been sedentary for awhile, it is very, very wise to check with your doctor before you begin even a moderate exercise program. It is also important to remember that you didn't get OUT of shape overnight, and you won't get back IN shape overnight, either.

Start slow and add to your exercise program slowly but steadily. For example, you might start by walking around the running track at the local high school one time and at a slow rate. Then you increase the rate a little. Then you increase the distance a little. You keep making little increases over a few weeks, and the next thing you know, you will be walking at a good clip four times around the running track in about 20 minutes. That is aerobic exercise.

Exercise (while you are doing it) actually increases blood pressure and heart rate. However, after you stop exercising, your blood pressure and you heart rate will be lower and slower than before you began to exercise. It is a good idea to take your blood pressure and your heart rate just before you exercise, again when you are through exercising, and then once more in about a half hour. You will see measurable results almost immediately.

Selecting the right toothbrush (and using it properly) is perhaps the most important part of your dental care routine. When looking for teeth whitening products many people forget that the humble toothbrush is perhaps the most important weapon in your arsenal against yellow teeth.

Choosing The Right Toothbrush

Whilst you have a range of colors to choose from, whether you have a pink or a blue toothbrush isn't going to make much difference when it comes to how white you can get your teeth. The key things to look for in your toothbrush selection are head size, bristle stiffness and shape. Mostly this comes down to personal preference with a bit of trial and error but also consider the size of your mouth relative to the size of the head of the toothbrush, the shape of the head relative to the layout of your teeth and the stiffness of the bristles relative to the sensitivity of your teeth and gums. It is also good to get a toothbrush that feels comfortable in your hands and that you can grip on to well to control your brushing.

Using your Toothbrush Correctly

You should brush for a minimum of two minutes at least twice per day. You should be firm but not forceful with your brushing stroke and many believe that circular movements are the best for even and through coverage. Make sure that your toothbrush allows you to reach all your teeth including those right at the back. Use a good quality toothpaste and you need to put an amount around the size of a pea on your toothbrush.

Storing your Toothbrush

You want to keep your toothbrush healthy and in good condition, in turn this will keep your mouth healthy and in good condition. Dry your toothbrush after use and store somewhere non-dusty and preferably away from your faucet in your bathroom. If you have a bathroom cabinet keep your toothbrush in there.

So with correct use a properly selected toothbrush really can be a great way to whiter teeth. People often neglect the simple things like brushing their teeth correctly and regularly whilst in search of quick fixes for their white teeth aspirations. Takes some time today to clean your teeth properly and feel the difference it makes.

Blood Pressure Monitor Ratings

Blood pressure monitors are widely used in homes and offices. They are ideal tools for tracking your health and diagnosing diseases. Since the incidence of blood pressure-related medical conditions are on the increase today, there is a growing need for accurate and affordable blood pressure monitors.

Blood pressure monitors come in variety of shapes and sizes including manual inflation blood pressure monitors and automatic home blood pressure monitors. Pediatric and professional blood pressure monitors are also commonly used today. Durability, stability, affordability, and performance are the attributes of a good blood pressure monitoring device. It is always advisable to make a comparative study of various brands before actually buying a blood pressure monitor.

Blood pressure monitor ratings act as guidelines for manufacturers and experts in modifying existing models or developing newer and more advanced pressure monitoring devices. Medical professionals and users value ratings; it is based on these observations that individuals decide which blood pressure model to purchase. In addition to functionality, the affordability of a blood pressure monitor is also important to the average user. Durability is of prime importance as well because some blood pressure monitors stop functioning after a short period of time. So based on ratings, a customer can make a value-for-money judgment easily by taking into consideration how long a brand lasts.

Some good performing blood pressure monitors and their replacement parts and accessories are very highly priced, thereby making them unpopular among regular users. Ratings of a typical blood pressure monitor directly assist suppliers and users alike in judging rightly whether the brand would be successful for them or not.

Review - Comparison of Braun Electric Toothbrush

The Braun Electric Toothbrush is one of many electric toothbrushes on the market. Some would argue that the Braun Electric Toothbrush is the most effective and it certaintly is the most popular, taking in over 5000 searches per month on search engines such as Google.

The flagship braun electric toothbrush is the Oral B. The latest version features a two minute optimal brushing timer, high speed oscillations, pressure sensor warning and a compact charging unit. The most recent model is the Oral B Triumph 9500 which retails at around $80.

The Oral-B Triumph is a significant advancement in rechargeable toothbrushes, setting new standards in customisation, feedback mechanisms, and overall brushing design. An on board computer helps you brush better: The toothbrush tracks your actual brushing and reminds you when to replace your brush head.

However the braun 9500 triumph electric toothbrush, is considered expensive by some people. As a solution to this, braun also offer the 7500 model which is cheaper at around $30.

Overall, braun electric toothbrushes are high quality and come in a variety of different models and price ranges to suit your needs.

Another popular electric toothbrush is the Philips Sensiflex HX 1507. This electric toothbrush is much cheaper than the Oral B Triumph but offers less features. It does not come with a travel box or timer and also only has one speed setting. The good news though is that this electric toothbrush only costs around $20 which is great value for money.

To summarise, the braun electric toothbrush has a great product range which offer premium features and lower feature specs at reduced prices.

Miswak - Nature's Alternative to Toothbrush Sanitization

If you are one of those who seem to be bothered by the idea of having bacteria lodged on your toothbrush, you can try nature's very own tooth brush: Miswak aka Chewing Stick. Miswak (Chewing Sticks) are twigs obtained from mainly the Arak Tree (Salvadora Persica) although a few other trees can also be used. They have been used since times immemorial for maintaining dental health where a toothbrush was much alien to them as the Miswak is to us today. Miswak (Chewing Sticks) are twigs obtained from mainly the Arak Tree (Salvadora Persica) although a few other trees can also be used. They have been used since times immemorial for maintaining dental health where a toothbrush was much alien to them as the Miswak is to us today. The practice continues today and is widespread among the Muslims which can be traced to their religious beliefs. The Miswak is a common sight in the Middle East and constitutes a large part of oral health maintenance if not all for many people. The Miswak is not confined only to the Muslims and has been embraced by many cultures as an effective tool for dental health maintenance.

Now, what does this has to do with toothbrush sanitization? A lot infact! This is because Miswak has natural anti-microbial properties which mean there are no bacterial colonies thriving on the twig. Although, common perception of people might lead them to think otherwise, there is no harm done when using this natural wonder twig for dental health maintenance.

Infact, if reports are to be believed, it is more effective than your toothbrush! I have outlined these studies conducted on Miswak on my website. The studies especially stress Miswak's ability to fight against plaque and gum disease. One study carried out by Swedish researchers showed the Miswak's ability to kill bacteria without even being in contact with them. This fuelled the proposal by the researchers that Miswak was able to give off antibiotics in gas form which enabled it to kill the bacteria with out any physical contact.

We use advanced methods for toothbrush sanitization but never look towards nature for help. The market is flooded with advanced gizmos for toothbrush sanitization. Every other week, there is a new sanitization project launched which claims to kill up to 99.999% bacteria. Keeping in mind that there is no concrete evidence to suggest the need for toothbrush sanitization, splurging on a toothbrush sanitizer might not be a good idea after all especially when we have nature offering us a better solution.

Looking at a Miswak it is a simple brown twig with one of its ends cut off to expose the bristles. These bristles are more effective than your toothbrush's bristles when it comes to cleaning between teeth. This is because these bristles are parallel to the handle rather than perpendicular as in a conventional toothbrush. A Miswak is softened overnight in water the first time before use. Biting or chewing on the bristles releases a strong anti-microbial juice which not only eliminates bacteria in your mouth but also removes bad odor and creates a fragrance in the mouth.

Although Miswak is not readily available in the western world, they can easily be ordered via online services which deliver it to your doorstep. The price may seem diminutive for a thing which provides such immense benefits.nfined only to the Muslims and has been embraced by many cultures as an effective tool for dental health maintenance.

Normal Blood Pressure

The phrase "blood pressure" means the force that the blood exerts against the walls of the arteries. Everyone has blood pressure. It is the indicator of how hard the hard is working to push blood throughout the circulatory system.

Although blood pressure alters during the course of the day based on physical activity, a reading of 120/80 of systolic and diastolic readings are considered to be a normal blood pressure. This is the standard reading that is considered the norm for checking the blood pressure increase or decrease.

It is very important to keep blood pressure under control as high blood pressure, or hypertension as it is commonly known, may lead to heart attack or stroke. According to medical research, every 20-point increase in the systolic reading or a 10-point increase in the diastolic reading nearly doubles the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Since there is no cure for high blood pressure, it's important to keep readings within the normal range. High blood pressure can be controlled by maintaining a proper diet; good sleep habits, avoiding stress and regular medication. Hyperactivity may induce a faster heartbeat, resulting in increased blood pressure. Exercise, within limits, is another way to keep blood pressure in check.

A reading above the normal range of 120/80 is considered high and requires a physician's attention. Be aware that if anyone in your immediate or secondary family has high or low blood pressure, you too are genetically predisposed to a blood pressure condition. If their blood pressure is normal, yours probably is too. But there are always exceptions.
