Gum disease is a nasty thing to deal with; there is no doubt about it. Although it tends to start off slowly, many people would consider their Periodontitis to have snuck up on them without much warning at all, but things are usually to the contrary.
Such a condition usually arises from neglect of proper oral care, whether purposeful or otherwise. Selecting the right toothbrush can make a big difference in whether or not you are able to quickly reverse that nasty condition, and doing so is much easier than most people would like to think. It is really just a matter of knowing what you need and what works best for you, as everyone is different.
Soft vs. Medium vs. Hard
Soft toothbrushes seem to be the toothbrush among choice for many people, but that might be one of the reasons why gum disease has begun to affect such a large portion of the population. Soft toothbrushes loosen the plaque, yes; they also tend to smear it around in the mouth without actually removing it, something which can actually contribute to the formation of conditions like gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Hard toothbrushes on the other hand can be a bit too tough for the mouths of many people. While there is a place for them, it may not be your mouth-especially if you have sensitive teeth and gums. They can cause gum bleeding, and when dealing with a condition like gum disease in which there is already the presence of bleeding gums that is not always the best route to go.
Medium toothbrushes are often the best way to go. These types of brushes have allowed for people to have found a rather happy medium when it comes to choosing the toothbrush of their choice. It brushes hard enough to get the gunk out but not hard enough to cause more damage than there already was in the first place. On the other hand, it isn't too soft to get the job done right.
Electric toothbrushes are a viable option as well. When chosen right they can get twice the work done in half the time as far as oral cleaning is concerned. They are a bit pricier than the traditional toothbrushes on the market, though.
Having a great smile and reversing Periodontitis is about making smart choices. Choosing a toothbrush is one of these critical choices to be made. Find the best toothbrush for you and use it as often as you can to get back to a beautiful, vibrant smile in no time.
